Our Current Congressional Representative Has Ceded Congressional Power To The Executive Branch
Lauren talked with Melissa Brunner on WIBW 13 about how it is appalling that Tracey Mann and others do not stand up to the overreach of the executive branch on vital issues including trade & tariffs, war, AI & data centers, immigration, Medicaid cuts, SNAP cuts, etc. She discussed that Americans' lives will be adversely affected by the cuts to essential federal services for years to come, explaining that cuts made to federal agencies were made without expertise or knowledge of what the programs actually do. Regarding affordability issues, Lauren stated that we have higher costs of living due to a whiplash of extreme and frequently changing trade and tariff actions, when what we need is careful and long-term planning by experts and the involvement of Congress for economic stability. Lauren emphasized that farmers need Congress to work across the aisle to pass a bipartisan Farm Bill that: 1) funds conservations programs (especially in drought-stricken western Kansas), 2) provides services that farmers need (such as the consulting services that used to be available more readily through local USDA offices, which have had significant staffing cuts), and 3) supports agricultural research and innovation for crop planning. She stated that these important elements were cut in the most recent farm bill proposals. Finally, Lauren expressed support for a long-overdue comprehensive immigration reform bill that provides for strong, secure borders, a humane internal enforcement process, and a path to citizenship for folks who are already productive members of our communities and have no criminal background, adding that a similar bill had wide bipartisan support before it was quashed by this President in 2024.
